Acne is extremely common and acne scarring can sometimes develop as a complication and can cause severe distress.

WHY CHOOSE Acne Treatment FRAXEL

Is this treatment safe (including for active acne treatment)?

FRAXEL treatment is a safe procedure, there is extensive evidence surrounding its use. Because the procedure involves lasers, there is small risks of some side effects e.g. redness, and swelling. Our trained therapists will run this by your prior to the procedure.

If you currently have an acne breakout, it’s best to wait until your pimples have calmed down. Patients with acne-prone skin may develop post-treatment acne; let your therapist know if you are prone to acne or if you are suffering from other skin condition such as melasma, dermatitis, and herpes simplex (HSV).

Does Fraxel remove acne scars?

Fraxel is very effective in removing acne scars, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), and other skin discolorations. For severe scarring, it may take multiple sessions to come up with dramatic results.

Does acne treatment Fraxel hurt?

Like other laser treatments, Fraxel may give a little discomfort or stinging sensation. Our trained medical professional will apply numbing cream for pain relief. Some patients describe the pain as like snapping a rubber band across the face.

Initial consultation

Our in-house licensed consultant will ask about your medical history including the medications you are currently taking and other aesthetic procedures performed on your face. This treatment is not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Treatment details

After a thorough cleansing, topical lidocaine is applied to your skin and allowed to take effect for about 30 minutes to an hour. Your therapist tunes the laser device to your suit your skin condition, controlling laser strength and how deep it should penetrate. Even with numbing cream, you may still experience pain or a burning sensation. But don’t worry, it quickly dissipates after a few passes.

Side effects and contraindications

Post-treatment reactions such as redness, swelling, drying, itching, and temporary change in skin colour should be expected. You will be prescribed a medication to address the swelling if necessary. It should go away in 2 to 3 days.

Recovery

Before new skin cells are revealed, the top layer of your skin will flake or peel. Never pick on the peeling skin cause it can lead to scarring and uneven exfoliation. It could take about a week for your skin to fully recover. Your face will gradually reveal a new, pinkish, fresh skin underneath. It will feel sensitive so always wear sunscreen to protect it from sun damage.

The results could last a year, but you need up to 3-5 monthly sessions for prevention and maintenance.

Acne is extremely common and acne scarring can sometimes develop as a complication and can cause severe distress and affect our confidence. Our treatment in London for acne scarring uses an innovative treatment, Fraxel, which is a non-ablative laser skin procedure. The treatment is designed to resurface damaged skin by penetrating deep into the skin and causes the skin to repair itself by removing and pushing out the old damaged skin. This will trigger the body’s natural healing process to produce new healthy skin cells. This results in an improved skin tone and texture and improved appearance of the acne scarring. It can also reduce the evidence of wrinkles, pore size and brown spots. The results will be noticeable immediately after the treatment and will improve after 3-6 months when the deeper layer of skins are able to heal and produce new skin cells and collagen. The treatment is safe and effective for both men and women and for all skin types with mild to moderate acne scarring. Typically we recommend patients to have 3 treatments but the number of treatments required will depend on the severity of the acne.

Benefits of fractional skin resurfacing treatment

The technology behind Fraxel allows focused and more specific approach to skin rejuvenation. It creates a noticeable improvement in one session with very few side effects and minimal downtime. How does it work? By inducing micro-injuries to the damaged skin, Fraxel lets the body’s natural healing process work its magic. The skin will then release substances to hasten skin repair and healing, which means more collagen is produced together with hyaluronic acid–a naturally occurring molecule that boosts hydration. The end result is new and healthier skin cells plus bouncier, more plump, and brighter complexion.
