Dermaroller Stretch Mark Treatments

Dermaroller treatment is beneficial for those who suffer with stretch marks often seen during pregnancy and after rapid weight gain or weight loss.

WHY CHOOSE Dermaroller Stretch Mark Treatments

We use the most advanced dermaroller technique to rejuvenate the skin and get rid of stretch marks. This treatment is effective for individuals with scars, stretch marks, or aging skin. Dermarolling or micro needling uses a special handheld device with more than a hundred tiny needles to penetrate the outer layer of the skin and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. This also speeds up the repair of stretch marks, scars, acne marks, and other skin concerns. Scientific studies confirmed that the use of dermaroller promotes neocollagenesis and neoangiogenesis which translates to collagen formation and better blood flow to the skin.

Stretch marks are formed due to rapid weight gain or weight loss or if you have high levels of cortisone in the blood. Cortisone is a hormone that weakens the elastic fibers of the skin. While there are numerous topical ointments and serums available in the market for reducing stretch marks, they are not as effective as a dermaroller. This stretch mark treatment creates microscopic wounds that also help the skin absorb nutrients from dermatologic treatments.

How does a dermaroller remove stretch marks?

Dermaroller can significantly reduce the appearance of stretch marks but it may not be possible to remove them completely. In research studies, the microneedles from the device stimulate stem cells, the release of fibroblasts, and other growth factors. These useful substances are often released following an injury to the skin. However, because the needles are very small, they can’t produce a real injury (there is no gaping wound or blood). Instead, they trick the fibroblasts to migrate towards the treated area for repair purposes.

Who is this procedure suitable for?

This procedure is effective for individuals with scars, stretch marks, or ageing skin. If you would like more information as to whether you are eligible for this, please consult one of our therapists who will be happy to help you.

Am I a good candidate for this treatment?

Dermaroller treatment is beneficial for those who suffer from stretch marks often seen during pregnancy and after rapid weight gain or weight loss. The micro-needles in the Dermaroller reach the layer of skin which stimulates collagen and elastin production needed to maintain the skin’s shape and firmness. Regular sessions are great for those who are self-conscious about their stretch marks as they see gradual improvement.

Is dermaroller for stretchmarks safe?

Dermaroller is a very safe procedure and some even use this at home with instructions from their dermatologists. However, at-home dermaroller devices may be harmful if you don’t know how to use it properly. We use sterilise needles and equipment to prevent infection and other adverse effects.

How long to results last for?

Providing you follow our recommended course of 4 treatments, 6 weeks apart, you can expect results to last up to 1 year (depending on individuals).

Can I use dermaroller for stretch marks at home?

The device used for home treatment may not have needles that are long enough to stimulate collagen production. It’s better to consult professional aesthetic clinics for a dermaroller treatment because they employ trained medical practitioners to perform the procedure and use medical-grade equipment and clinically-tested products. In our clinic, we only use genuine dermaroller with CE mark.

Is dermarolling/micro needling painful?

While puncturing the skin with tiny needles sounds painful, you will barely feel a thing during the procedure. Your practitioner will apply an anesthetic cream on the treatment area so it’s not as painful as you think.

How long does the procedure take?

Dermaroller stretch mark treatment can take about 40 minutes but varies depending on the extent of the stretch mark and the part of the body affected.

Initial consultation

If you would like more information as to whether you are eligible for this treatment, please consult one of our therapists who will be happy to help you. After obtaining your medical history and examining the areas in your body with stretch marks, the therapist will suggest the best treatment plan for you.

Treatment details

Larger microneedles, usually 1.5 to 2.0 mm, are used for body treatment. Deep stretch marks will also require larger needles. The dermaroller penetrates the epidermal layer of the skin in a painless manner. The treatment is non-ablative which means it does not cause the destruction of skin tissues. Skin needling induces pinprick bleeding to the skin, causing the body to release fibroblast, growth factors, and other skin-repairing materials.

Side effects and contraindications

Apart from some redness or swelling, there are no side effects reported with dermaroller stretch mark treatment. Because of the nature of the procedure, it may cause infection in the hands of an untrained practitioner. Our licensed skin care professionals will ensure your safety during the procedure.

Recovery

There is no social downtime from this procedure. Treating skin problems with a dermaroller is a gradual process. You need several sessions to experience the full benefits of dermaroller for stretch marks. If you follow our recommended course of 4 treatments, 6 weeks apart, you can expect results to last up to 1 year (depending on individuals).

SOME INFORMATION

Stretch marks are narrow lines on the skin surface, often seen during pregnancy and also after rapid weight gain or weight loss. When the skin is stretched over its elasticity limit, it causes the dermis (middle layer) of the skin to tear. The dermis contains collagen and elastin which is needed to maintain the skin’s shape and firmness. The Dermaroller treatment is also known as micro-needling, as it involves a roller device with hundreds of tiny needles. These needles penetrate the epidermis (outer layer) of the skin to reach the dermis to stimulate collagen and elastin production and ultimately regenerate the skin. There will be some tenderness and redness to the skin after the treatment, but otherwise the day can be resumed to normal. The visual changes to the skin are remarkable with regular treatment sessions and is a fantastic treatment option for those who are conscious of their appearance due to visible stretch marks.
